Before incorporation
In January 1999, Nick Whittome began providing one-to-one IT consultancy, specialising in Windows NT and Exchange Server services for a select group of clients. As the 1990s drew to a close, on-premise networks swiftly transitioned from Novell to Windows NT, driving a rising need for expert support. Nick became Ireland’s leading expert on migrating Sage Sovereign Retrieve 4GL (later Sage Line 100) systems from Novell Networks to Windows NT during this time.

Incorporation
On October 1st, 1999, NT&E Solutions was officially formed. A common question at the time was the meaning behind “NT&E” – it stood for New Technology & Email Solutions.

First Employees
In 2000, NTES expanded its client base from just a handful to over 30 managed clients. With the growing demand for services, it became clear that one person could no longer manage it all, so we began building engineering teams to travel and support our clients. At that time, remote support was still in its early stages, and technology didn’t yet allow for remote meetings. As a result, we spent days, weeks, and months travelling across Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK, installing and upgrading Windows NT networks and Exchange Servers, and providing a wide range of other IT services.
While we worked hard to meet our clients’ growing needs, we also formed strong bonds as a team, sharing memorable moments along the way. Our dedication to delivering exceptional service was matched by camaraderie and a bit of fun, creating a positive and energetic work environment that remains a part of our culture today.

Ireland’s First Microsoft MVP
In 2006, Nick Whittome became the first individual in Ireland to receive the prestigious Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award. At that time, the MVP title was given to fewer than 3,000 people worldwide who demonstrated exceptional expertise and contributed to Microsoft’s community forums, providing specialist support for Microsoft products.
Nick’s MVP award was for his expertise in Microsoft Small Business Server, a new and innovative product aimed at the SMB sector. His active contributions to public forums showcased his deep understanding of the product, earning recognition from Microsoft.
Nick continued to receive the MVP award for 12 consecutive years, maintaining his status even as the Small Business Server product was retired. During this time, Nick transitioned his focus to larger enterprise solutions and Azure cloud services, further advancing his expertise and contributions to the Microsoft ecosystem.

Celtic Tiger technology years!
From 2000 to 2007, NTES expanded its services across the entire east coast of Ireland and Northern Ireland. During this period, the company grew significantly, entering the hotel and building development sectors. As the Celtic Tiger roared, we supported numerous new hotels and businesses in building their networks and on-premise clustering solutions. Additionally, we ventured into supply and manufacturing industries, which were thriving from the boom in the construction sector at the time.

Slow down and a rebranding.
During the global economic downturn of 2008-2010, we prioritized stability and resilience, focusing on maintaining a strong core team to continue delivering exceptional service to our customers. While many businesses faced uncertainty, we remained committed to safeguarding jobs and preserving customer relationships. This challenging period provided an opportunity for introspection and renewal.
We emerged stronger by rebuilding from the ground up. A new management team was established, our staff was expanded, and we set our sights on growing our presence on the West Coast of Ireland. Simultaneously, we continued to serve our East Coast customers, leveraging the evolving capabilities of remote support technology and deploying on-site engineers nationwide.
In parallel, we refreshed and updated the NTES brand, aligning it with our renewed vision for the future.

NTES Expansion continues, and we opened our first offices in Ducart Suite in Limerick.

Expansion and Voice Services
In 2015, NTES expanded our IT services to introduce Wholesale and Retail VoIP Services, including becoming Ireland’s largest and only 3CX Platinum Partner. We moved to a larger office in Limerick, and expanded our team.

Move to Holland Road
In 2018, NTES moved to our current home in Limerick to allow for further staff, and new meeting space for our clients, as well as dedicated service and setup space for our engineering and project team.
